This Day in History: In 1927 Babe Ruth hit his 60th home run. The record stood until Roger Maris hit 61 in 1961. Mark McGwire beat Marris' record in 1998 by hitting 70 and Barry Bonds topped this in 2001 with 73.
... And that is enough baseball history for a lifetime for me :)

Tyler Update

I've spoken with Tyler's Mum over the weekend, Tyler is being moved to a hospital in Leamington, closer to his parents house. Tyler will be there recovering for a couple of weeks then will likely transfer to Parkwood Hospital here in London for further rehabilitation.

Tyler is making progress, he does have some short term memory loss but is improving daily.

Thursday September 25, 2014

I'm sorry, the last couple days I haven't had an opportunity to post. On Tuesday I had "one of those mornings" where I wished there was a rewind button and I could just go back to bed. My morning started as it usually does after the 9:05am stand up meeting I get my coffee and head down to my office. On my way down I spilt my coffee all over myself (luckily my outfit soaked it all up and there was barely a drop on the hotel carpet). I had a client tour at 9:15am so I rushed to the bathroom in an attempt to clean myself up. From there I went into my office and turned on my computer, "POP POP POP" was the noise it made when it refused to turn on and has yet to turn on since. Shortly after that happened my tour had arrived, albeit a little flustered and skirt stained I managed to get my composure, and do the tour. Today I have just received confirmation that the client would like to move forward with the proposal! The week has gotten exceptionally better since Tuesday morning.

TODAY:

Today is the last day of a four day dinner function we've hosted in the Grand Hall. Today we also have a breakfast meeting in the Deerview Room and a dinner meeting in the Deerview Room this evening.

The Hotel is very busy today with only 4 rooms left to sell.

Homecoming Weekend Feedback

We enjoyed our stay at the Windermere Manor. I would like to suggest however that you consider updating the rooms slightly with fresher or newer carpet, slightly better bathroom look. The rooms are a great size and the bed is awesome. Rooms just seemed a bit tired as did the outdoors. You could charge slightly higher rate and get these updates.

I am impressed with the fact that you are asking for our feedback. I have worked in quality assurance and value the opportunity to give feedback.

Our experience was delightful.  The ambiance created by the beautiful gardens and grounds and the old English charm of the buildings exceeded our expectations.  We enjoyed the food..in particular the soups and salads and chicken and especially the beef tenderloin!!  Our server was very helpful in sharing some tips for cooking tenderloin. And the pace of service was leisurely. The staff were all very helpful.

The fresh vegetables grown on the property appeared on the plates..and the kale was especially good…and even home grown honey!!

The white wine served on Saturday night was not one of our favourites but then that is a personal choice. We are generally disappointed in the coffee provided in rooms
Breakfast provided a wide selection of hot and cold and all the extras anyone could ask for…
Our room had a sink that needed to have the strainer on the tap cleaned..it sprayed water around the sink. The floor lamp seemed wobbly ..
The beds were super comfortable and the room had a pleasant scent  on arrival and temperature just right.

We hope to return again!
Thank you for asking
You can extract any part of these comments for others to read if you choose.

Sincerely,

Bev Carter

Sept 20/21,2014. Stayed at the hotel for my 55th reunion at the Ivey Business School. Enjoyed a wonderful Friday evening reception party and dinner at The Cafe, delicious breakfasts, private reception in my room/suite and great banquet on Saturday night. The food is prepared to perfection and the staff are all to be commended. You have a great group of people from the front desk to the room service staff, cooks, waiters and waitresses  etc.  A most enjoyable experience!

Dear Mr. Kellock,

My husband and I just completed our stay at your hotel facility this past weekend, as part of the Meds ’84 class reunion for Western’s Homecoming weekend.  I would have to provide you with an overall fair rating on the stay.  We found the room to be clean, and the bed to be comfortable, and despite trepidations about the room proximity to the front desk and front circle on the main floor, we had undisturbed sleep.

I have to admit being disappointed upon walking into our room – it is quite clear that this room décor was established in the late 1980’s, and no attempt has been made to update/modernize the appearance.  The glue and screw holes left behind on the chest of drawers, the tired indoor/outdoor carpeting, lack of a fresh coat of paint and a very minimal attempt at any wall decoration with primarily bare walls, suggested a stay in a lesser quality hotel rather than a facility in which Western would place its guests.  The bathroom could have offered some simple additional amenities such as ear swabs, and a bar of soap which didn’t appear heat-denatured.  The person who came to refresh our room on Saturday failed to remove used coffee cups (still containing coffee) as well as leaving behind used facecloths and hand towels, even though these had been  replaced with fresh ones.  Breakfast choice was good, although I have to admit I don’t enjoy dried scrambled eggs.  The actual set up of the breakfast buffet needs to be evaluated, as guest flow along the items was held up by the placement of the breads and toaster in the corner, making it very difficult to access the butter/jams/honey if one was not interested in a toasted bread product.  A longer, straighter display, with perhaps the bread/toaster at a separate table, or at the end of the selection display might be easier.  It was a little easier on Sunday morning in the Grand Hall rather than the café, but again the toaster/bread was placed in the middle of the table which caused a blockage in flow along the buffet line.  I have the impression the chefs/restaurant staff and you have never attempted to serve yourselves a breakfast meal with the setup you’ve chosen – it might be a point to consider.

The actual evening events we attended were quite enjoyable, your staff seem very professional and courteous, and the food quality for the evening was excellent.  This is something of which you should indeed be proud.

I have usually enjoyed staying at the Manor for our reunion events however, I’m doubtful to come back to stay with this recent experience with the sleeping room accommodations – unfortunate that this weekend’s stay has coloured my opinion in this manner, but I need to be truthful.  I expected better.

Tyler Update

I ran into Mrs. Fulmer this morning, Tyler’s mom, she is currently staying with us, and is very grateful for the hospitality that Windermere has provided.

Tyler has woken from the coma, and is talking, eating and doing Physio therapy  3 times a day.
No visitors at this time, as it would be too much stimuli for Tyler.
He has some short term memory loss, which actually might be a blessing, as he doesn’t remember the accident.  Tyler’s roommate was with him at the time of the accident, and luckily was able to call for help.
The plan is still to move him to Parkwood Hospital where the real work will begin.

I told her to let him know that we are all thinking of him, and rooting for him.

Tyler Fulmer Update

I have spoken with Tyler’s Mum and she has asked me to share the following with Tyler’s friends and colleagues:

Tyler is still in a coma, he is being monitored regularly for any changes in condition. Since Tyler has suffered a serious brain injury he is being transferred to Parkwood Hospital where he will receive the very best care and treatment from the best head injury doctors and specialists in the world.

Tyler’s Mum has asked me to share with as many people as possible the updates to his condition as she believes the more people praying for Tyler the quicker his recovery will be, I have assured Tyler’s Mum that he is in all of our thoughts and prayers and that I will continue to keep everyone updated.

As Tyler’s parents are from out of town, they will be staying frequently at our hotel over the next few weeks, please join me in ensuring they are looked after during this difficult time.

Guest Feedback

It's been a while since I've posted guest feedback comments so here's a few .......

Our stay at the Windermere was quite pleasant minus the EXTREMELY LOUD people above us with heavy footsteps and the POUNDING Treadmill right next door to where my son (who had just had knee surgery) was trying to relax and sleep.  I honestly felt it was like hearing my own heartbeat pounding away.  The walls are not insulated very well at all.  The accommodations were great, the staff was very friendly and the meals were perfect for our breakfasts.  Loved the atmosphere.  The grounds were beautiful.

In all we loved the place and have recommended it to our friends and family.  We understand the heavy footsteps, it was just our situation with our son that was so annoying for him.

Thank you,

Room clean and spacious. Bed comfortable.  Staff helpful both reception and breakfast. Pleasant surroundings.  Dinner with the ninetieth party excellent. If occasion arises would not hesitate to book again

Hi !!!

Oh my goodness ........... it was the most perfect wedding I could ever have imagined !!  You and your staff were AMAZING !!

Sorry I am just getting this now ,  we didn't get back till Sunday and next thing I knew I was back to work on Monday and I blinked and its Wed already !

If you still have the wedding items I would be happy to pick them up today or tomorrow :)

Hi ladies.  I wanted to send you both a HUGE thank you for all of your hard efforts surrounding Lindsay’s wedding on August 3rd.  I am remiss in not writing you until now – I just got back from holidays last night.  We were so thrilled with every aspect of Windermere – please accept my heartfelt kudos to you and the entire team.  Your attention to detail and willingness to accommodate our many requirements was appreciated from every perspective.  We have heard many compliments on the wonderful food and excellent staff.  Thank you both for listening to us at every step of the planning process and allowing us to make this day so special for Lindsay and Jeff.  Considering it was likely the most personally important day I will ever coordinate, you have my personal gratitude.

I have been staying with you over the last 4 years so that I could attend my medical appointments. The rooms are always clean and well stocked. The rooms are a nice size. I appreciate having the breakfast included in the cost, which is very reasonable. I have had several meals in the evening while I was convalescing and found the food to be well prepared and tasty. The hotel is set in a location that makes you feel like you are outside of the city. This last stay we saw several rabbits and deer on site,.

Dear Brenda and staff,
Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.
The setting was beautiful, and the staff were exceptional.
As you probably have heard,we miscalculated the numbers by 2.
The staff dealt with it swiftly, without missing a beat.
I was very grateful!
I will be in touch soon to speak with you.
Sincerely
Johanne and Stuart

Hello. We have stayed with you many times. Recently I rented a room for myself and suite for my daughters family. It was very convenient while we attended a family wedding. The wedding was lovely and we enjoyed having breakfast in the great hall. Check in and out was fast and efficient. I wanted to purchase a gift certificate to give a friend for a night but it was not available. Please consider this in the future. Thanks.

On behalf of Elizabeth, Erica and Chris, I just wanted to send you a special thank you for our wrap up lunch today as well as for all of the assistance you provided to our group while we were in your beautiful facility at the beginning of June.  You and your team were outstanding to work with and as mentioned at lunch today, we felt it was definitely “the best conference ever” from start to finish!

Please also share our appreciation for a smooth-running Conference with Neil, Kristian, Hannah and Gwen as well – it was a pleasure to work with them and they definitely did a fantastic job looking after “issues” as they arose during our event.  Every one of the staff we dealt with was very attentive at trying to help us when it was needed!

Thanks for everything, Brenda, and I will definitely keep in touch.

All my best,
Lori

Dear Mr. Kelloc,

We had a  pleasant experience at Windermere Manor during our recent visit (July 24). We found the staff to be very courteous and helpful.
The dinner at the Cafe was excellent. Your place is ideally located in a beautiful, peaceful and quiet surrounding. We will definitely consider staying there during our future visits to the area.

Regards -

S. K. Bose

Hello Mr. Kellock,

We recently stayed at Windermere Manor for the first time and want to return the next time we plan a stay in the London area.

We lived in London for many years and it is always near and dear in our hearts. Windermere is unique for being a super quiet hideaway in the woods. We loved the view of trees just outside our window and the beauty of nature just outside the door.

We also felt pampered by the high quality of food at Windermere's cafe, especially appreciating the local and organic ingredients and honey made on the premises. The honey stung beer was a winner and a special treat. Windermere's deserves praise for its innovative menu.

In short, can't wait to return to stay at Windermere. The staff were extremely kind. We appreciated the quiet we enjoyed.

the only thing that needs improving is that the room could use carpet steaming to remove the odors.

thanks for asking for our feedback and thanks for running a unique and beautiful hotel,

Christianne and John Curry

The month of August was a fantastic month in all departments! I’m looking forward to maintaining this momentum going into September.

There are 2 day meetings today.

The Grand Hall will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from today until Thursday as the Cafe is undergoing repair. Instead of Pasta Bar today, the Cafe will be offering the Grand Hall Lunch Buffet for a low price of $14 plus tax!! To make a reservation please call 519-858-5866

It’s another busy day for the hotel with only 9 rooms left to sell!

Neil is back from holiday`s today and somehow in his absence we managed to keep the place in one piece, notwithstanding Christina’s constant attempt to “cause mayhem”. Not to worry Neil, I made sure to keep things under wraps.
